History of Broomfield

Broomfield is a suburb of Denver, Colorado, United States. It is the 20th most populous municipality in Colorado and the most populous suburb of Denver. Broomfield is a part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is a relatively new incorporated city, going through several name changes and land additions since its inception in 1961. The community was incorporated as a city and named Broomfield inspectors found several irregularities in the election. The case was appealed to the Colorado Supreme Court which overturned the election on the grounds that the election did not comply with the Colorado Constitution. The court ordered a new election. The case was appealed to the United States Supreme Court which reversed the decision of the Colorado Supreme Court on the grounds that the United States Constitution preempted the Colorado Constitution. The case was appealed back to the Colorado Supreme Court which ruled that the United States Constitution did not preempt the Colorado Constitution. The case was finally settled in 1966 when the residents of Broomfield voted to become a city and annexed the Broomfield Heights subdivision.
Broomfield has experienced rapid growth since its incorporation. The population has increased ten-fold since 1970. Much of this growth is attributable to the annexation of several large suburban residential developments and the influx of high-tech workers employed by local employers such as Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., Level 3 Communications, and Brocade Communications Systems. The city has also experienced commercial growth with the development of the 1stBank Center, a large multi-purpose arena, and the Flatiron Crossing, a regional mall.
Broomfield is home to many historical places. One of the most well-known is the Broomfield Heritage Center. The Broomfield Heritage Center is a museum that contains many artifacts from Broomfield's past. The Heritage Center is also home to the Broomfield Genealogical Society. Another well-known historical place in Broomfield is the Broomfield Cemetery. The Broomfield Cemetery is the final resting place for many of Broomfield's pioneers. The Broomfield Cemetery is also home to the Broomfield Veterans Memorial. The Veterans Memorial is a place where people can go to remember and honor those who have served in the military.
Broomfield is also home to many other historical places. The First Baptist Church of Broomfield is the oldest church in Broomfield. The church was founded in 1864. The First Baptist Church of Broomfield is still an active church today. The George J. Reynolds Farmhouse is another historical place in Broomfield. The farmhouse was built in 1868 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The George J. Reynolds Farmhouse is now a museum. The Broomfield Depot is another historical place in Broomfield. The Broomfield Depot was built in 1881 and was used as a railroad depot. The Broomfield Depot is now a museum.
